Campaign China - SapientNitro appoints Jason Chau as China managing director

By Benjamin Li

SHANGHAI – SapientNitro China has appointed Jason Chau in the newly-created position of managing director. Chau came on board on December 13 and will be based in Shanghai.

Chau will be responsible for all aspects of the China business, from strategy to client services, with a focus on SapientNitro's multi-channel marketing and commerce offering for clients.

He will also play an active role on key accounts, such as Unilever, Coca-Cola, Dove Chocolate, and Marks & Spencer. He is designated to report to Joe Tibbetts, managing director of the Asia-Pacific region for SapientNitro.

Chau is working closely with Shannon Dix, who has recently been promoted from general manager to director of global clients and client management, and Jennifer Tan, chief creative officer. Both have been working for the agency for six years, as part of SapientNitro's leadership team in China.

Originally from New York, Chau has 17 years of experience in integrated marketing in global, regional and local capacities. He has worked in Greater China, Singapore and the US, with a focus on digital and CRM. He has helped clients including Microsoft, Intel, and Mastercard build profitable relationships with their customers through innovative marketing programmes.

Chau joins SapientNitro from MRMWorldwide where he served 11 years in a variety of management roles across Asia. Most recently, he served as managing director for MRM in Singapore and China, building both operations from ground up.

Prior to MRM, Chau built a solid track record at FCB Direct in Hong Kong, and at various New York City agencies, including Wunderman, JWT, and Young & Rubicam.

"Jason excels at creating and delivering value for clients and has demonstrated remarkable success in building businesses," said Tibbetts. "We are pleased to have found a talented and globally experienced leader like Jason to continue to grow our China businesses and bring innovative thinking to this dynamic market."

"My job is to make SapientNitro a 'modern consumer's agency'," said Chau. "It is uniquely positioned to succeed in the modern marketplace by having a strong technology DNA combined with top-notch creativity."

Reported last week, Volvo has moved its creative AOR account, previously held by SapientNitro, to Arnold Worldwide in the UK and China.
