Windows 8 and Modern UI - The Changing Application Paradigm

    • > Topic Overview

Windows 8 is the next version of Microsoft Windows. It has been “re-imagined” right from the chipset to the user experience. It features a new user interface inspired by Microsoft’s Modern Design language that supports multiple input methods including touch based input for touch screens and tablets as well as button based inputs via keyboard and mouse for PCs, all aimed at providing a fast, fluid and rich user experience.
While Windows 8 retains the Desktop familiarity, it is designed to support more mobile form factors. It has a new application model that allows creation of interactive, live, fast and fluid apps. Apps can work together and can seamlessly exchange information creating a powerful user experience. All this makes it easier for businesses to create their own line of business applications to help enhance productivity.
In this seminar, Manish and Vibhor will help you understand what has changed in Windows 8 from the point of view of an Architect/Developer in the context of building powerful line of business applications in the Capital Markets world.

Modern UI – Building real world applications for Capital Markets

    • > Topic Overview

With the introduction of the all new Modern Style apps, rich user experience has become the prime focus of Windows 8. Unlike traditional desktop apps, Modern style apps occupy the entire screen and are chromeless. They have altogether different design and development principles that are bound to change the way WPF architects/developers envision, design and develop rich thick client applications.
Manoj and Vibhor have extensive experience in developing complex trading applications on the Microsoft Platform using various windows based technologies.
In this session, they will deep dive into implementing the most significant changes that WPF architects and developers will need to consider in order to leverage the capabilities of Windows 8 to build great fast, fluid and immersive Modern style applications for capital markets.

During Redefining Perspectives 6, we discussed:

The future of User Experience Design – Visual Experience Design Conventionally, software user interfaces (UI) have been either text based, list based, table based or form based. Visual UIs have existed (mainly in specialized or niche solutions, often as part of industrial design), but are now going mainstream with software and web application design.
Visual Design is the next evolution of User Interface technology and in the future, particularly with touch interfaces, a Visual UI will be the primary mode of interaction. How do you design a great Visual UI? Learn how to create visual user interfaces that go beyond just adding graphs and charts. Rewire your approach to user experience and explore innovative ways to think about visual design.

Building Modular Web Applications Using Backbone.js and RequireJS Developing web applications using JavaScript was more like the Wild West just a few years ago – unruly developers writing complex DOM spaghetti in a single file containing 5000 lines of code. The landscape is changing now. JavaScript developers are starting to utilize patterns and best practices traditionally used only on mature technology platforms such as Java and .NET.
In this session, we talk about two popular JavaScript libraries that allow us to build robust JavaScript applications – Backbone.js, which enables the use of the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern and RequireJS, which allows us to break up a large JavaScript application into smaller manageable modules.

During Redefining Perspectives 3, we discussed:

Visualizing the Future - User experience design is changing. Are you ready to play? At work and at play our minds are assailed by increasing volumes of data - data that adds richness and value to our lives and our work. But this same data, in all its raw detail is harder and more taxing for our brains to process and interpret. Visualization is the latest evolution of user experience design, as a way to allow us to easily consume, interact with, analyze and react to our data laden world around us. Jarlath Forde, as a pioneer of this change for our teams and our clients, will share our perspective on visualization, and how it is being practically applied to our client’s challenges.
