Sapient Appoints Chip Register To Lead Its Global Trading And Risk Management Practice

CAMBRIDGE, MA — July 24, 2007 — Sapient (NASDAQ: SAPE) today announced that it has appointed Chip Register to lead its global Trading and Risk Management (TRM) practice.  In this role, Register will be responsible for the global management of the practice, including the ongoing delivery and development of Sapient’s service offerings and capabilities, while overseeing business development and marketing initiatives.

Demand for Sapient’s technology and business consulting as well as its process and software solutions has grown rapidly among the world’s leading banks, asset management firms, hedge funds, energy companies, agricultural firms, industrial groups and utilities.  Sapient’s broad TRM offering, combined with its commitment to client success, collaborative approach and deep industry expertise, has attracted a broad range of clients with specific objectives and challenges.

“Sapient’s impact is felt at many levels of an organization—whether it is a CEO concerned with overall portfolio performance, a trading manager assessing the value at risk on specific trades, a CFO following compliance issues, a credit manager overseeing exposures to individual companies, an operation manager ensuring that all deals are recorded accurately, or a CIO charged with building and maintaining those systems,” said Register.  “The common thread is the ability of the Sapient TRM practice to engage—with its unique approach and culture—and quickly add value.”

Register’s broad industry experience and proven expertise in TRM business strategy and operations will enable Sapient to further expand its capabilities and reach, according to Alan J. Herrick, Sapient’s president and chief executive officer.

“To fully understand the trends, challenges and needs of companies involved in trading and risk management, you need direct and highly specialized experience,” said Herrick.  “Chip brings a record of success to Sapient from his years of building and managing businesses for investment banks, hedge funds, utilities and large industrial groups.  He also has tremendous trading experience across the commodity and treasury asset classes.  We know our clients will benefit from his expertise and we’re thrilled to have him join the Sapient team.”

Prior to Sapient, Register served as a senior vice president and managing director of the energy division of Louis Dreyfus, one of the oldest and largest privately held commodities trading companies in the world.  He was one of the company’s senior business leaders focused on expanding the platform into new areas.

Previously, Register was at Essent Energie, the largest Dutch utility, where he served as the managing director of its merchant energy subsidiary.  While there, he was charged with overseeing the company’s trading business, sourcing and optimizing energy commodities—power, natural gas, oil, emissions and bio-fuels—for both power production and distribution by industrial and retail sales channels.  Prior to assuming the role of managing director, Register was the company’s chief operating officer and head of trading.  He also sat on the board of Interkraft Capital Management ASA in Norway.

Register has held senior positions with the Weyerhaeuser Company Ltd. and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (both in Toronto), as well as with the Union Bank of Switzerland (in New York).  He is a graduate of Tufts University in Massachusetts and a native of Birmingham, Alabama.
