Sapient Strengthens Marketing Strategy and Analysis Team Through Strategic Hires
Susanna Lucas Joins as Vice President;
Nathaniel Perez, Marc Schwartz, Ullrich Appelbaum and Sara Bamber Join as Directors
BOSTON — January 19, 2010 – Sapient Interactive, a division of Sapient (NASDAQ: SAPE), and the largest independent interactive marketing services firm in the world, today announced it has expanded its strategy team, helmed by vice president of strategy, Laura McFarlane, through a series of key hires. Susanna Lucas has assumed the role of vice president, marketing strategy and analysis, and Nathaniel Perez, Marc Schwartz, Ullrich Appelbaum and Sara Bamber have joined as directors of marketing strategy and analysis. All five report to McFarlane, who joined Sapient in November 2008.

Lucas is responsible for integrated commerce and marketing strategies. Most recently, she served as vice president, Internet strategy, product management, and e-commerce for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online. There she helmed an e-commerce engine that drove $1.1 billion in direct revenue, and oversaw the redesigns of the Disney World and Disney Cruise websites. Prior to her 11-year tenure at the Walt Disney Company, Lucas launched her career as a senior consultant at Andersen Consulting, now called Accenture.
Perez runs the Community Intelligence group for Sapient Interactive and provides clients with social media generated research and insights and programs that influence and measure digital engagement, action and communication. Perez comes to Sapient from Razorfish, where he worked for 10 years and most recently served as its director of marketing technologies, overseeing social media initiatives for Fortune 1000 clients including H&R Block, JCPenney and AT&T. His previous business experience includes stints at Bell Canada and then at IBM Global Services.
Schwartz leads the data and analytics practice. Previously, as executive vice president, consumer engagement at DDB Seattle, Schwartz co-led collaborative marketing programs for clients including McDonald’s, Holland America, Amtrak and Microsoft, overseeing interactive, new media, direct response, analytics and production for his department. Prior to that, Schwartz was global director of data strategy at Wunderman Network, and held management positions at PacifiCare, AT&T Wireless, and Airborne Express.
Appelbaum leads the strategy practice on the west coast. Appelbaum’s international career has spanned planning director and brand consultant roles in Europe and the U.S. Most recently, he served as head of account planning at Leo Burnett Chicago, and he previously held positions as senior vice president/global group planning director at EnergyBBDO Chicago, worldwide planning director at Fallon Worldwide, and director of account planning and research at BBDO Germany.
Bamber provides brand and through-the-line strategies to Sapient’s clients. As a 20-year veteran in strategic planning, Bamber has worked at some of the strongest strategy-driven agencies: Ogilvy in the UK and US, TBWA/Chiat/Day, Merkley & Partners, and Anomaly Communications. She was Deputy Head of Planning at TBWA/Chiat/Day NYC and Head of Planning at Anomaly in NYC where she established and built out the strategic planning discipline. Her breadth of experience includes advertising, digital marketing, sales promotion, CRM, PR, sponsorship/event marketing, and new product development. She has been part of the launch of automobiles, airlines and ocean liners, and helped build iconic brands across packaged goods, alcohol, retail, and media.
