Sapient-Designed Enbridge elink Cited as One of the 10 Best Intranets of the Year by Prominent Industry Group
BOSTON – February 3, 2010 – Sapient (NASDAQ: SAPE) today announced that its employee portal designed for Enbridge Inc., a leading energy services firm and Fortune 500 company, was selected by the Nielsen Norman Group (NNG) as one of the world’s 10 best intranets for 2010. In its Intranet Design Annual report, NNG reviews the designs and usability of 10 intranets that were chosen from a large pool of candidates, giving readers a rare sneak peek at best-in-class intranet designs that ordinarily are hidden behind a firewall.
“Nielsen Norman’s Intranet Design Annual report is the most respected authority on corporate intranet usability. Any company looking to embark on a corporate intranet overhaul consults this report,” said Dan Barnicle, vice president of the content management and collaboration practice at Sapient. “We’re delighted to be singled out but, moreover, we’re delighted that we could help Enbridge employees to improve communication, collaboration, and productivity through the development of the elink portal.”
Dubbed elink, the information workspace was developed to increase a sense of community and connectedness within a rapidly growing Enbridge, to improve the awareness and effectiveness of corporate initiatives, and to establish a lasting repository of company knowledge and best practices. It was built on the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 platform.
“We partnered with Sapient to deliver an enterprise portal solution that combined business analysis, user-centered design methodology, and technology to empower our people with the tools and resources they need to deliver effectively on our business objectives,” said Brent Pookhay, vice president & chief information officer, Enbridge, Inc. “Together, Enbridge and Sapient have developed the blueprint for the next-generation of enterprise portal, and I’m thrilled that Nielsen Norman has taken notice.”
Since its launch, elink has been used by more than 6,000 Enbridge employees and consultants spread across nearly 200 locations in North America —with each user averaging more than 29 actions per day. More than 95% of users in post-launch surveys rated their site experience as “satisfying” or “extremely satisfying.” elink has become Enbridge’s “go-to” destination for both office and field employees who need assistance or have questions about their daily job functions, replacing the frustrations of past information-sharing systems with a collaborative community experience that can support future corporate growth and expansion.
