A New Enterprise Architecture Helps Bolster an Energy Firm’s Leadership Position
When a large, European asset-backed energy company needed more control and visibility over its asset park in order to enable better trading decisions, it called Sapient Global Markets.
Objectives
With 5,000 MW of diverse generation, storage, and transportation assets for multiple commodities, the firm needed to improve its ability to handle large, complex data volumes, significantly increase revenues and run a more efficient business.
Solution
To help the company achieve its goals, we redesigned the business processes and application set that supported the entire range of energy data management needs by crafting and implementing:
- A modern, service-oriented architecture (SOA) with strong performance characteristics and a business-centric data model
- A series of applications, including deal capture, demand forecasting, fuel optimization and nominations to provide superior visibility and data management across the entire value chain
Results
The new enterprise-wide architecture provides a consistent and coherent way to share data assets across the business and system landscape, which has helped the firm optimize the asset park and achieve a sustainable leadership position in the European energy market. Plus, the company realized a full return on investment in just two years.
