It Was Theirs to Win

I've been in the interactive game since the beginning, which is actually not so long ago. I can vividly remember when Amazon.com was the benchmark for success in e-commerce. Every one of our clients looked up to Amazon as the model for customer experience and a beacon of innovation. What happened to them? Today is December 22 and I'm nervous (actually panicked) because half of my stuff is not here. In fact I'm so disturbed by this I may actually get in my car and drive to the mall, which is something I literally have avoided the last five years running. Yes, I'm that guy who does 100% of their holiday shopping online, or I should now rephrase I WAS. It's beginning to feel that heading o the store may be better at this point than lurking around the neighborhood trying to get a glimpse of that shiny UPS truck. Wish me luck.

Does “tweeting” mean you’ve figured it out? Does knowing how to “friend” someone qualify you as a modern marketer of the new advertising age? Hardly. In fact, reaching that lofty goal is less about the tactics we employ, and more about our overall approach to the complexities of the modern consumer. Our jobs are becoming more [...]

Design isn’t a dark art practiced by mystic lords on mountaintops. The more we can demystify it, the better our design gets as we open our work up to the widest variety of other peoples’ expertise. There’s confusion over what skills actually fit inside design expertise, a confusion shared even by designers.

Problem-solving never happens in a vacuum. Culture creates the context for our solutions, directly affects our processes, and influences how we view our goals. That’s why the 1960s space race between the Soviet Union and the U.S. remains relevant to development work done today. The Earth’s two superpowers dealt with the same daunting challenges of space [...]

No, I Don’t Want to Be Friends
With My Butter:
While brands still try hard to “crack the Social Media code,” most seem to understand consumers no longer find the prospect of being friends with a brand more engaging than the single click it took to fan the brand page on Facebook. After all, what’s so novel about the thought of a friendship with my butter? Precisely, nothing.
