CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Sapient (NASDAQ: SAPE) has entered into an agreement to acquire Business Information Solutions, LLC (BIS), a provider of SAP-related professional services, specializing in business intelligence solutions. The acquisition, which is expected to be completed late in the second quarter of this year, is subject to certain closing conditions and approvals.
“The opportunity in the SAP services market is growing rapidly as many large organizations seek to improve competitive advantage by leveraging their SAP investments,” said Sapient Executive Vice President Alan Herrick. “We're excited about adding BIS's considerable expertise in SAP’s advanced and innovative products. With this acquisition, we will build on our SAP and business intelligence capabilities to help our clients increase agility and gain better visibility into running their businesses.”
Sapient’s clients will benefit from BIS’s recognized expertise and thought leadership in the latest SAP products and solutions, including Business Information Warehouse (BW), Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM), NetWeaver and other “New Dimension” products. This expertise, combined with the ability to leverage Sapient’s agile-based Global Distributed Delivery SM model, will enable clients to realize superior returns from their investments in SAP. Additionally, the acquisition of BIS will extend Sapient’s outsourcing capabilities to include the management of SAP applications.
BIS implemented some of the first mySAP business intelligence solutions in the United States. Additionally, the company has worked with clients in the utilities, retail and public sector industries developing BI solutions for SAP customers. For example, BIS Energy, one of its business units within the utilities industry, is well-known for delivering utilities-specific solutions built on the SAP platform, particularly in the areas of business intelligence, work management, data, billing, compliance and customer relationship management.
“This acquisition will bring together two great companies with complementary service offerings who share one common goal of delivering extraordinary results to our clients,” said BIS CEO Hagen Ruff. “Working together, we can provide our clients with a broader set of services and deeper industry expertise to further their success.”
Today, Sapient provides business intelligence solutions to many clients, including Essent Energy, Opodo, and the U.S. Marine Corps. For Essent Energy, a leading European gas and power utility company, Sapient developed a solution to analyze metering data. The data is automatically loaded into a data warehouse, enabling Essent to better manage its customer electricity and gas energy allocations, as well as increase the value of the allocation information to improve decision-making and inform strategic planning.
